Traveling the World

Since Rome is one of the most cultural cities in Europe there are a lot of monuments to see. Furthermore, there are a lot of important buildings.

Almost everyone would think of the coliseum when thinking of Rome. This building was finished in 80 AD. This amphitheatre is the emblem of the Italian capital and is visited by thousands of tourists each year. The building stands at a height of 48 metres tall and has a square footage of 527 metres. In its original days, the coliseum was the location for gladiator games.

Another very well known monument is the Petersdom, also known as Peter’s basilica. It is the centre of the Vatican City. With an overall construction of 15.000m2 it is one of the biggest churches in the world. The cathedral is also famous due to the fact that the Pope’s permanent residence lies right next door. The only problem with that is that terrorism is feared and visitors of the Church must therefore pass through rigorous security measures before being allowed to enter.

First conceived in 1908, The Bioparco Zoological Garden was built with the sole intention of entertainment, as supposed to reasons of animal experimentation as was more common back in those days. The Bioparco´s initial success couldn’t be maintained and as a result, attempts were then made to stock the zoo with especially rare and exotic animals. Numerous and various extensions were made to the zoological garden to try and gain more popularity and acceptance from the locals and tourists.

Furthermore, the Bioparco Zoological Garden consists of more than 200 species of animals housed and maintained in a radical new design. The Bioparco Zoological Garden has been built on an entirely new principle which was aimed at removing metal steel bars and cages used to contain animals. Instead attention and focus was placed on pits. As a result, The Bioparco Zoological Garden became one of the most attractive zoos in Europe, outdoing its old-fashioned counterparts found in Berlin and Paris.
